Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)

Affordable dental coverage for eligible Canadians — and we're here to help you use it.

What is the CDCP?

The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a federal government program that provides dental coverage to eligible Canadians who don't have access to private dental insurance. Launched in 2024, it's one of the most significant expansions of dental benefits in Canadian history.

The plan is administered by Sun Life on behalf of the Government of Canada and covers a wide range of dental services — from routine checkups and cleanings to fillings, extractions, and more.

Why the CDCP Matters

Oral health is deeply connected to overall health. Untreated dental problems can contribute to heart disease, diabetes complications, and chronic pain — yet cost has historically been one of the biggest barriers to care.

Oral health affects whole-body health

Gum disease and untreated infections don't stay in your mouth. Research links poor oral health to cardiovascular disease, respiratory issues, and complications in managing diabetes.

Cost should never be a barrier

Millions of Canadians have been skipping dental care because they simply can't afford it. The CDCP changes that — giving people access to the preventive and restorative care they need.

Prevention saves money long-term

A routine cleaning and checkup costs far less than treating an advanced cavity or gum disease. Getting regular care under the CDCP protects both your health and your wallet.

Designed for those who need it most

The CDCP prioritizes seniors, children, and adults with disabilities — groups that have historically faced the greatest barriers to dental care in Canada.

Who Is Eligible?

To qualify for the CDCP, you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • You are a Canadian resident with a valid health card
  • You file your taxes in Canada (both you and your spouse/common-law partner, if applicable)
  • You do not have access to private dental insurance through an employer, pension, or other benefits plan
  • Your adjusted family net income is under $90,000 per year

Coverage is income-tested. Families with an adjusted net income under $70,000 receive 100% coverage. Between $70,000 and $79,999, you pay 40% of costs. Between $80,000 and $89,999, you pay 60% of costs.

Priority groups (phased rollout)

  • Seniors aged 65 and older
  • Adults with a valid Disability Tax Credit certificate
  • Children under 18

What Services Are Covered?

The CDCP covers a broad range of dental services, including:
